Services Offered - Clock Repair

We specialize in the repair, maintenance, and restoration on most modern and antique clocks including Vienna Regulators, Long & Short Drop wall clocks, Calendar Clocks, Kitchen Clocks, Bracket Clocks, Mantle Clocks, Cuckoo Clocks, French Mantle Clocks, German Clocks, French Carriage Clocks, Grandfather and Grandmother Clocks, Ships Clocks, Aeronautical Clocks, Porcelain Clocks, modern Reproduction Clocks, Desk Clocks, Novelty Clocks, as well as electrical and quartz battery operated clocks and other timepieces.

An antique clock can literally run forever with proper care and attention. It is recommended to have a clock movement checked, serviced, and oiled every 8 - 10 years for preventative measures. Most antique clocks will run for a long time without cleaning, oiling, and general servicing however, when a clock does stop running, the repairs can be quite extensive and costly.

When mechanical clocks (either spring driven or weight driven) come in for general servicing, a complete overhaul is performed. This includes dismantling, ultrasonically cleaning the movement, repairing and adjusting the movement, oiling, inspecting all gears, teeth, lantern pinions, bushings, mainsprings, etc. Upon completion of assembly and oiling, the clock will then be re-mounted into the clock case where it will run for one or more weeks to test the movement for continuous running, adjusting the clock for accuracy, and to insure that the clock strikes and chimes properly. Whether your clock is a modern reproduction or and antique timepiece, we are uniquely qualified to handle all your repair needs.

House calls are scheduled by appointment only on all Grandfathers clocks, Grandmothers clocks, and all large wall clocks.

Cuckoo Clocks

Cuckoo clocks - Usually hang on the wall although a few will sit on a shelf or a mantle. They are all identified by the cuckoo sound imitating the cuckoo bird with the cuckoo bird making an appearance out of the door located in the top front of the clock case. A bird will usually come out and "cuckoo".  Sometimes an additional figure like a man with a beer stein will make an appearance.  The cuckoo will announce the half hour with one "cuckoo" and the hour with multiple "cuckoos". Music (if so equipped) will play on the hour and sometimes on the half hour also. Some clocks play music, display moving dancers rotating on a carousel, and may have animation figures. Most antique cuckoo clocks come from the Black Forest section of Germany. I also service newer reproduction cuckoo clocks as well.

Cuckoo clocks are often considered to be inexpensive clocks but the more intricate and complicated models can sell for thousands of dollars.

Battery Powered Clocks

Quartz is a  generic term used to describe a battery operated clock. These clocks may be time only, strike, chime, or swing a pendulum for visual effect. The movements are relatively inexpensive so therefore are replaced when they fail rather then be repaired. The clock cases can take almost any shape, style, or design imaginable. The value of a quartz powered clock is in the case because of the relatively low cost of the movements.

ATMOS Clock Repair

I offer a service for the complete restoration of the Reutte's and Jaeger-LeCoutre Atmos clocks. My repairs have a (1) year warranty as I do not feel the need to offer a longer warranty because a properly repaired Atmos clock should run (15) years or longer between service. The warranty covers my labor not parts, because a bellow that is good today could lose its power in a year or a suspension could break from mishandling. The average price of repair is $350. plus parts. It is very important to know that parts for the Atmos clock are very expensive. The two critical parts that can become defective are the suspension and the bellows. The current price for the suspension is $75. and new bellows are $250. If you would like to bring your clock in to the shop, I can examine your clock and provide you with a free estimate.

Warranty

I offer a one year guarantee on all clocks repaired or sold, provided they have been properly handled (abuse and neglect voids this guarantee).
